Looking for Love

Now I know I’ve spoken about love before;
But I've never spoken with a passion,

Never spoken about love in a fashion that belied my fire
My ire with the status quo
And all that came before

I need to do things differently
Because my relationship history doesn’t become me

Even if the only constant factor in all my fucked up relationships is me
I’m keeping my eyes peeled
For the woman of my dreams

I want a love that needs no glove,
Not because we’re stupid
But because we haven’t gotten there yet
We’re taking it slow

I want enough love to drown an elephant, three gorillas
And yo’ mama too
We’d just be swimmin’ in it

Too many times I've been told that I'm mean
And won't let anyone in

I ask who can blame me
Because after a couple acts of arson
By the person who lived here last

[Clutches at heart]

I’m too much of an architect
Not to build these walls

Fortified, tall, with guard sentries
Trained to fire at will at any
Unauthorized entries
Suffice it to say they get a little trigger happy
When I’m unhappy
Taking potshots at
Random bystanders or anyone
Dumb enough to take a gander
At this burnt out white picket fence

They’ll need a tent city to nurse the wounded

But love, don’t you worry
Because I’ll hold your hand
And guide you through my demilitarized zone

Maybe together we could write a letter
To the president and tell him to stop the violence

But who am I kidding;
My heart’s just another dictatorship
Ruled by mein für The Past

So instead I head this garrison
Looking out to the horizon,
Thinking I see
Hoping to see a mast

Desperate that maybe true love has come for me at last
She wouldn't be the first or last to come to port

But after she slept with me
I’ve never seen a woman go by so fast
Nothing to see here,
Just another girl who didn’t like what she saw
And kept moving past
Not so much a goodbye kiss or a second glance

So now I’m looking for love that
Doesn’t give me abandonment issues
Or regret of having met her

I’m looking for a love that doesn’t come
With a flying circus of baggage
With every intention of leaving me with it all

I’m asking for love, no assembly required

A love that won’t make me wonder
“Where did I go wrong?”

I’m looking for true love
And it feels like there’s nothing I can do
If true love doesn’t find me soon…

I've decided to man this fort unarmed
Somebody, Cupid, anybody
Give me a shot if you care
